Selmer Modele 22 Alto (belonging to the Great Freddie Gardner!!)

This Serie 1922 no. 997 was purchased from Mrs. Gardner by the father of the current owner in 1952. Freddie had died in 1949 at the age of 39! He had started his career in the 30’s with Ray Noble playing Alto, also playing Tenor & Baritone, and was a handy Clarinetist. Served in the RN in the war on coastal patrols. Played with George Crow in the Blue Mariners band. After the war he was the original Baritone player with Ted Heath, known then as Fred Gardner. Prolific session man in the late 40’s making his name with the Peter York Orchestra as Alto soloist. Good Jazz player who died too early.

In good condition it comes with a Selmer ‘short shank’ mouthpiece.
